fs: exec: apply CLOEXEC before changing dumpable task flags
If you have a process that has set itself to be non-dumpable, and it
then undergoes exec(2), any CLOEXEC file descriptors it has open are
"exposed" during a race window between the dumpable flags of the process
being reset for exec(2) and CLOEXEC being applied to the file
descriptors. This can be exploited by a process by attempting to access
/proc/<pid>/fd/... during this window, without requiring CAP_SYS_PTRACE.
The race in question is after set_dumpable has been (for get_link,
though the trace is basically the same for readlink):
[vfs]
-> proc_pid_link_inode_operations.get_link
-> proc_pid_get_link
-> proc_fd_access_allowed
-> ptrace_may_access(task, PTRACE_MODE_READ_FSCREDS);
Which will return 0, during the race window and CLOEXEC file descriptors
will still be open during this window because do_close_on_exec has not
been called yet. As a result, the ordering of these calls should be
reversed to avoid this race window.
This is of particular concern to container runtimes, where joining a
PID namespace with file descriptors referring to the host filesystem
can result in security issues (since PRCTL_SET_DUMPABLE doesn't protect
against access of CLOEXEC file descriptors -- file descriptors which may
reference filesystem objects the container shouldn't have access to).

exec: reserve full virtual stack space at execve()
grows the main process stack at execve() time so that it can reach it's
maximum allowed size. No RAM is allocated until the stack actually uses this
space.
This prevents problems observed around address space randomization where
large heaps grew into and collided with the main process' stack. This
prevented the main stack from growing later. Early workarounds had the
particular application allocating its stack to be large before going off
to execute the work that grew the heap; that saved the stack's virtual
space but also allocated RAM ahead of the stack needing it.

mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cache
Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon
evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an
iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point,
reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing
code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty.
Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets
under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check
for this flag before installing shadow pages.

mm: per-thread vma caching
This patch is a continuation of efforts trying to optimize find_vma(),
avoiding potentially expensive rbtree walks to locate a vma upon faults.
The original approach (https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/11/1/410), where the
largest vma was also cached, ended up being too specific and random,
thus further comparison with other approaches were needed. There are
two things to consider when dealing with this, the cache hit rate and
the latency of find_vma(). Improving the hit-rate does not necessarily
translate in finding the vma any faster, as the overhead of any fancy
caching schemes can be too high to consider.
We currently cache the last used vma for the whole address space, which
provides a nice optimization, reducing the total cycles in find_vma() by
up to 250%, for workloads with good locality. On the other hand, this
simple scheme is pretty much useless for workloads with poor locality.
Analyzing ebizzy runs shows that, no matter how many threads are
running, the mmap_cache hit rate is less than 2%, and in many situations
below 1%.
The proposed approach is to replace this scheme with a small per-thread
cache, maximizing hit rates at a very low maintenance cost.
Invalidations are performed by simply bumping up a 32-bit sequence
number. The only expensive operation is in the rare case of a seq
number overflow, where all caches that share the same address space are
flushed. Upon a miss, the proposed replacement policy is based on the
page number that contains the virtual address in question. Concretely,
the following results are seen on an 80 core, 8 socket x86-64 box:
1) System bootup: Most programs are single threaded, so the per-thread
scheme does improve ~50% hit rate by just adding a few more slots to
the cache.

mm: larger stack guard gap, between vmas

Stack guard page is a useful feature to reduce a risk of stack smashing
into a different mapping. We have been using a single page gap which
is sufficient to prevent having stack adjacent to a different mapping.
But this seems to be insufficient in the light of the stack usage in
userspace. E.g. glibc uses as large as 64kB alloca() in many commonly
used functions. Others use constructs liks gid_t buffer[NGROUPS_MAX]
which is 256kB or stack strings with MAX_ARG_STRLEN.
This will become especially dangerous for suid binaries and the default
no limit for the stack size limit because those applications can be
tricked to consume a large portion of the stack and a single glibc call
could jump over the guard page. These attacks are not theoretical,
unfortunatelly.
Make those attacks less probable by increasing the stack guard gap
to 1MB (on systems with 4k pages; but make it depend on the page size
because systems with larger base pages might cap stack allocations in
the PAGE_SIZE units) which should cover larger alloca() and VLA stack
allocations. It is obviously not a full fix because the problem is
somehow inherent, but it should reduce attack space a lot.
One could argue that the gap size should be configurable from userspace,
but that can be done later when somebody finds that the new 1MB is wrong
for some special case applications. For now, add a kernel command line
option (stack_guard_gap) to specify the stack gap size (in page units).
Implementation wise, first delete all the old code for stack guard page:
because although we could get away with accounting one extra page in a
stack vma, accounting a larger gap can break userspace - case in point,
a program run with "ulimit -S -v 20000" failed when the 1MB gap was
counted for RLIMIT_AS; similar problems could come with RLIMIT_MLOCK
and strict non-overcommit mode.
Instead of keeping gap inside the stack vma, maintain the stack guard
gap as a gap between vmas: using vm_start_gap() in place of vm_start
(or vm_end_gap() in place of vm_end if VM_GROWSUP) in just those few
places which need to respect the gap - mainly arch_get_unmapped_area(),
and and the vma tree's subtree_gap support for that.

fat: fix using uninitialized fields of fat_inode/fsinfo_inode

Recently fallocate patch was merged and it uses
MSDOS_I(inode)->mmu_private at fat_evict_inode(). However,
fat_inode/fsinfo_inode that was introduced in past didn't initialize
MSDOS_I(inode) properly.
With those combinations, it became the cause of accessing random entry
in FAT area.

NFSv4: fix getacl ERANGE for some ACL buffer sizes

Flags (PIPE_BUF_FLAG_PACKET, PIPE_BUF_FLAG_GIFT) could remain on the
unused part of the pipe ring buffer. Previously splice_to_pipe() left

Uninitialized flags appears to have been there from the introduction of
the splice syscall.

ext4: fix inode checksum calculation problem if i_extra_size is small

We've fixed the race condition problem in calculating ext4 checksum
value in commit
b47820edd163 ("ext4: avoid modifying checksum fields
directly during checksum veficationon"). However, by this change,
when calculating the checksum value of inode whose i_extra_size is
less than 4, we couldn't calculate the checksum value in a proper way.
This problem was found and reported by Nix, Thank you.

jbd2: don't leak modified metadata buffers on an aborted journal

If the journal has been aborted, we shouldn't mark the underlying
buffer head as dirty, since that will cause the metadata block to get
modified. And if the journal has been aborted, we shouldn't allow

Ralf Spenneberg reported that he hit a kernel crash when mounting a
modified ext4 image. And it turns out that kernel crashed when
calculating fs overhead (ext4_calculate_overhead()), this is because
the image has very large s_first_meta_bg (debug code shows it's
842150400), and ext4 overruns the memory in count_overhead() when
setting bitmap buffer, which is PAGE_SIZE.

ext4: fix in-superblock mount options processing

Fix a large number of problems with how we handle mount options in the
superblock. For one, if the string in the superblock is long enough
that it is not null terminated, we could run off the end of the string
and try to interpret superblocks fields as characters. It's unlikely
this will cause a security problem, but it could result in an invalid
parse. Also, parse_options is destructive to the string, so in some
cases if there is a comma-separated string, it would be modified in
the superblock. (Fortunately it only happens on file systems with a
1k block size.)

Btrfs: fix memory leak in reading btree blocks

So we can read a btree block via readahead or intentional read,
and we can end up with a memory leak when something happens as
follows,
1) readahead starts to read block A but does not wait for read
completion,
2) btree_readpage_end_io_hook finds that block A is corrupted,
and it needs to clear all block A's pages' uptodate bit.
3) meanwhile an intentional read kicks in and checks block A's
pages' uptodate to decide which page needs to be read.
4) when some pages have the uptodate bit during 3)'s check so
3) doesn't count them for eb->io_pages, but they are later
cleared by 2) so we has to readpage on the page, we get
the wrong eb->io_pages which results in a memory leak of
this block.
This fixes the problem by firstly getting all pages's locking and
then checking pages' uptodate bit.

So t3's eb->io_pages is not consistent with the number of pages it's reading,
and during endio(), atomic_dec_and_test(&eb->io_pages) will get a negative
number so that we're not able to free the eb.

ext4: mark inode dirty after converting inline directory

If ext4_convert_inline_data() was called on a directory with inline
data, the filesystem was left in an inconsistent state (as considered by
e2fsck) because the file size was not increased to cover the new block.
This happened because the inode was not marked dirty after i_disksize
was updated. Fix this by marking the inode dirty at the end of
ext4_finish_convert_inline_dir().
This bug was probably not noticed before because most users mark the
inode dirty afterwards for other reasons. But if userspace executed
FS_IOC_SET_ENCRYPTION_POLICY with invalid parameters, as exercised by
'kvm-xfstests -c adv generic/396', then the inode was never marked dirty
after updating i_disksize.

fuse: add missing FR_FORCE

fuse_file_put() was missing the "force" flag for the RELEASE request when
sending synchronously (fuseblk).
If this flag is not set, then a sync request may be interrupted before it
is dequeued by the userspace filesystem. In this case the OPEN won't be

ocfs2: do not write error flag to user structure we cannot copy from/to

If we failed to copy from the structure, writing back the flags leaks 31
bits of kernel memory (the rest of the ir_flags field).
In any case, if we cannot copy from/to the structure, why should we
expect putting just the flags to work?
Also make sure ocfs2_info_handle_freeinode() returns the right error
code if the copy_to_user() fails.

ubifs: Fix journal replay wrt. xattr nodes

When replaying the journal it can happen that a journal entry points to
a garbage collected node.
This is the case when a power-cut occurred between a garbage collect run
and a commit. In such a case nodes have to be read using the failable
read functions to detect whether the found node matches what we expect.
One corner case was forgotten, when the journal contains an entry to
remove an inode all xattrs have to be removed too. UBIFS models xattr
like directory entries, so the TNC code iterates over
all xattrs of the inode and removes them too. This code re-uses the
functions for walking directories and calls ubifs_tnc_next_ent().
ubifs_tnc_next_ent() expects to be used only after the journal and
aborts when a node does not match the expected result. This behavior can
render an UBIFS volume unmountable after a power-cut when xattrs are
used.
Fix this issue by using failable read functions in ubifs_tnc_next_ent()
too when replaying the journal.

NFSv4.1: nfs4_fl_prepare_ds must be careful about reporting success.

Various places assume that if nfs4_fl_prepare_ds() turns a non-NULL 'ds',
then ds->ds_clp will also be non-NULL.
This is not necessasrily true in the case when the process received a fatal signal
while nfs4_pnfs_ds_connect is waiting in nfs4_wait_ds_connect().
In that case ->ds_clp may not be set, and the devid may not recently have been marked
unavailable.
So add a test for ds_clp == NULL and return NULL in that case.

The crash is easily reproducible by running the following command, if an
msleep(100) is inserted before the call to func() in iterate_devs():

ext4: fix stack memory corruption with 64k block size

The number of 'counters' elements needed in 'struct sg' is
super_block->s_blocksize_bits + 2. Presently we have 16 'counters'
elements in the array. This is insufficient for block sizes >= 32k. In
such cases the memcpy operation performed in ext4_mb_seq_groups_show()
would cause stack memory corruption.

ext4: fix mballoc breakage with 64k block size

block_dev: don't test bdev->bd_contains when it is not stable

bdev->bd_contains is not stable before calling __blkdev_get().
When __blkdev_get() is called on a parition with ->bd_openers == 0
it sets
bdev->bd_contains = bdev;
which is not correct for a partition.
After a call to __blkdev_get() succeeds, ->bd_openers will be > 0
and then ->bd_contains is stable.
When FMODE_EXCL is used, blkdev_get() calls
bd_start_claiming() -> bd_prepare_to_claim() -> bd_may_claim()
This call happens before __blkdev_get() is called, so ->bd_contains
is not stable. So bd_may_claim() cannot safely use ->bd_contains.
It currently tries to use it, and this can lead to a BUG_ON().
This happens when a whole device is already open with a bd_holder (in
use by dm in my particular example) and two threads race to open a
partition of that device for the first time, one opening with O_EXCL and
one without.
The thread that doesn't use O_EXCL gets through blkdev_get() to
__blkdev_get(), gains the ->bd_mutex, and sets bdev->bd_contains = bdev;
Immediately thereafter the other thread, using FMODE_EXCL, calls
bd_start_claiming() from blkdev_get(). This should fail because the
whole device has a holder, but because bdev->bd_contains == bdev
bd_may_claim() incorrectly reports success.
This thread continues and blocks on bd_mutex.
The first thread then sets bdev->bd_contains correctly and drops the mutex.
The thread using FMODE_EXCL then continues and when it calls bd_may_claim()
again in:
BUG_ON(!bd_may_claim(bdev, whole, holder));
The BUG_ON fires.
Fix this by removing the dependency on ->bd_contains in
bd_may_claim(). As bd_may_claim() has direct access to the whole
device, it can simply test if the target bdev is the whole device.

When we pass the value
1275809046 + 1 as the parameter start_ret to the
function tree-log.c:find_dir_range() (done by replay_dir_deletes()), we
end up with path->slots[0] having the value 239 (points to the last item
of leaf N, item 240). Because the dir log item in that position has an
offset value smaller than *start_ret (
1275809046 + 1) we need to move on
to the next leaf, however the logic for that is wrong since it compares
the current slot to the number of items in the leaf, which is smaller
and therefore we don't lookup for the next leaf but instead we set the
slot to point to an item that does not exist, at slot 240, and we later
operate on that slot which has unexpected content or in the worst case
can result in an invalid memory access (accessing beyond the last page
of leaf N's extent buffer).
So fix the logic that checks when we need to lookup at the next leaf
by first incrementing the slot and only after to check if that slot
is beyond the last item of the current leaf.

ext4: fix data exposure after a crash

Huang has reported that in his powerfail testing he is seeing stale
block contents in some of recently allocated blocks although he mounts
ext4 in data=ordered mode. After some investigation I have found out
that indeed when delayed allocation is used, we don't add inode to
transaction's list of inodes needing flushing before commit. Originally
we were doing that but commit
f3b59291a69d removed the logic with a
flawed argument that it is not needed.
The problem is that although for delayed allocated blocks we write their
contents immediately after allocating them, there is no guarantee that
the IO scheduler or device doesn't reorder things and thus transaction
allocating blocks and attaching them to inode can reach stable storage
before actual block contents. Actually whenever we attach freshly
allocated blocks to inode using a written extent, we should add inode to
transaction's ordered inode list to make sure we properly wait for block
contents to be written before committing the transaction. So that is
what we do in this patch. This also handles other cases where stale data
exposure was possible - like filling hole via mmap in
data=ordered,nodelalloc mode.
The only exception to the above rule are extending direct IO writes where
blkdev_direct_IO() waits for IO to complete before increasing i_size and
thus stale data exposure is not possible. For now we don't complicate
the code with optimizing this special case since the overhead is pretty
low. In case this is observed to be a performance problem we can always
handle it using a special flag to ext4_map_blocks().

BACKPORT: udf: Verify symlink size before loading it
UDF specification allows arbitrarily large symlinks. However we support
only symlinks at most one block large. Check the length of the symlink
so that we don't access memory beyond end of the symlink block.

BACKPORT: udf: Check path length when reading symlink
Symlink reading code does not check whether the resulting path fits into
the page provided by the generic code. This isn't as easy as just
checking the symlink size because of various encoding conversions we
perform on path. So we have to check whether there is still enough space
in the buffer on the fly.

BACKPORT: fs: limit filesystem stacking depth
Add a simple read-only counter to super_block that indicates how deep this
is in the stack of filesystems. Previously ecryptfs was the only stackable
filesystem and it explicitly disallowed multiple layers of itself.
Overlayfs, however, can be stacked recursively and also may be stacked
on top of ecryptfs or vice versa.
To limit the kernel stack usage we must limit the depth of the
filesystem stack. Initially the limit is set to 2.

splice: introduce FMODE_SPLICE_READ and FMODE_SPLICE_WRITE
Introduce FMODE_SPLICE_READ and FMODE_SPLICE_WRITE. These modes check
whether it is legal to read or write a file using splice. Both get
automatically set on regular files and are not checked when a 'struct
fileoperations' includes the splice_{read,write} methods.

fuse: Add support for d_canonical_path
Allows FUSE to report to inotify that it is acting
as a layered filesystem. The userspace component
returns a string representing the location of the
underlying file. If the string cannot be resolved
into a path, the top level path is returned instead.

vfs: add d_canonical_path for stacked filesystem support
Inotify does not currently know when a filesystem
is acting as a wrapper around another fs. This means
that inotify watchers will miss any modifications to
the base file, as well as any made in a separate
stacked fs that points to the same file.
d_canonical_path solves this problem by allowing the fs
to map a dentry to a path in the lower fs. Inotify
can use it to find the appropriate place to watch to
be informed of all changes to a file.

introduce ->iterate(), ctx->pos, dir_emit()
New method - ->iterate(file, ctx). That's the replacement for ->readdir();
it takes callback from ctx->actor, uses ctx->pos instead of file->f_pos and
calls dir_emit(ctx, ...) instead of filldir(data, ...). It does *not*
update file->f_pos (or look at it, for that matter); iterate_dir() does the
update.
Note that dir_emit() takes the offset from ctx->pos (and eventually
filldir_t will lose that argument).

iterate_dir(): new helper, replacing vfs_readdir().
struct dir_context: contains the readdir callback (and will get more stuff
in it), embedded into whatever data that callback wants to deal with;
eventually, we'll be passing it to ->readdir() replacement instead of
(data,filldir) pair.

BACKPORT: posix_acl: Clear SGID bit when setting file permissions

When file permissions are modified via chmod(2) and the user is not in
the owning group or capable of CAP_FSETID, the setgid bit is cleared in
inode_change_ok(). Setting a POSIX ACL via setxattr(2) sets the file
permissions as well as the new ACL, but doesn't clear the setgid bit in
a similar way; this allows to bypass the check in chmod(2). Fix that.
NB: conflicts resolution included extending the change to all visible
users of the near deprecated function posix_acl_equiv_mode
replaced with posix_acl_update_mode. We did not resolve the ACL
leak in this CL, require additional upstream fixes.

vfs: Allow filesystems to access their private mount data
Now we pass the vfsmount when mounting and remounting.
This allows the filesystem to actually set up the mount
specific data, although we can't quite do anything with
it yet. show_options is expanded to include data that
lives with the mount.
To avoid changing existing filesystems, these have
been added as new vfs functions.

fs/proc/task_mmu.c: add user-space support for resetting mm->hiwater_rss (peak RSS)
Peak resident size of a process can be reset back to the process's
current rss value by writing "5" to /proc/pid/clear_refs. The driving
use-case for this would be getting the peak RSS value, which can be
retrieved from the VmHWM field in /proc/pid/status, per benchmark
iteration or test scenario.

UPSTREAM: capabilities: ambient capabilities
Credit where credit is due: this idea comes from Christoph Lameter with
a lot of valuable input from Serge Hallyn. This patch is heavily based
on Christoph's patch.
===== The status quo =====
On Linux, there are a number of capabilities defined by the kernel. To
perform various privileged tasks, processes can wield capabilities that
they hold.
Each task has four capability masks: effective (pE), permitted (pP),
inheritable (pI), and a bounding set (X). When the kernel checks for a
capability, it checks pE. The other capability masks serve to modify
what capabilities can be in pE.
Any task can remove capabilities from pE, pP, or pI at any time. If a
task has a capability in pP, it can add that capability to pE and/or pI.
If a task has CAP_SETPCAP, then it can add any capability to pI, and it
can remove capabilities from X.
Tasks are not the only things that can have capabilities; files can also
have capabilities. A file can have no capabilty information at all [1].
If a file has capability information, then it has a permitted mask (fP)
and an inheritable mask (fI) as well as a single effective bit (fE) [2].
File capabilities modify the capabilities of tasks that execve(2) them.
A task that successfully calls execve has its capabilities modified for
the file ultimately being excecuted (i.e. the binary itself if that
binary is ELF or for the interpreter if the binary is a script.) [3] In
the capability evolution rules, for each mask Z, pZ represents the old
value and pZ' represents the new value. The rules are:
pP' = (X & fP) | (pI & fI)
pI' = pI
pE' = (fE ? pP' : 0)
X is unchanged
For setuid binaries, fP, fI, and fE are modified by a moderately
complicated set of rules that emulate POSIX behavior. Similarly, if
euid == 0 or ruid == 0, then fP, fI, and fE are modified differently
(primary, fP and fI usually end up being the full set). For nonroot
users executing binaries with neither setuid nor file caps, fI and fP
are empty and fE is false.
As an extra complication, if you execute a process as nonroot and fE is
set, then the "secure exec" rules are in effect: AT_SECURE gets set,
LD_PRELOAD doesn't work, etc.
This is rather messy. We've learned that making any changes is
dangerous, though: if a new kernel version allows an unprivileged
program to change its security state in a way that persists cross
execution of a setuid program or a program with file caps, this
persistent state is surprisingly likely to allow setuid or file-capped
programs to be exploited for privilege escalation.
===== The problem =====
Capability inheritance is basically useless.
If you aren't root and you execute an ordinary binary, fI is zero, so
your capabilities have no effect whatsoever on pP'. This means that you
can't usefully execute a helper process or a shell command with elevated
capabilities if you aren't root.
On current kernels, you can sort of work around this by setting fI to
the full set for most or all non-setuid executable files. This causes
pP' = pI for nonroot, and inheritance works. No one does this because
it's a PITA and it isn't even supported on most filesystems.
If you try this, you'll discover that every nonroot program ends up with
secure exec rules, breaking many things.
This is a problem that has bitten many people who have tried to use
capabilities for anything useful.
===== The proposed change =====
This patch adds a fifth capability mask called the ambient mask (pA).
pA does what most people expect pI to do.
pA obeys the invariant that no bit can ever be set in pA if it is not
set in both pP and pI. Dropping a bit from pP or pI drops that bit from
pA. This ensures that existing programs that try to drop capabilities
still do so, with a complication. Because capability inheritance is so
broken, setting KEEPCAPS, using setresuid to switch to nonroot uids, and
then calling execve effectively drops capabilities. Therefore,
setresuid from root to nonroot conditionally clears pA unless
SECBIT_NO_SETUID_FIXUP is set. Processes that don't like this can
re-add bits to pA afterwards.
The capability evolution rules are changed:
pA' = (file caps or setuid or setgid ? 0 : pA)
pP' = (X & fP) | (pI & fI) | pA'
pI' = pI
pE' = (fE ? pP' : pA')
X is unchanged
If you are nonroot but you have a capability, you can add it to pA. If
you do so, your children get that capability in pA, pP, and pE. For
example, you can set pA = CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE, and your children can
automatically bind low-numbered ports. Hallelujah!
Unprivileged users can create user namespaces, map themselves to a
nonzero uid, and create both privileged (relative to their namespace)
and unprivileged process trees. This is currently more or less
impossible. Hallelujah!
You cannot use pA to try to subvert a setuid, setgid, or file-capped
program: if you execute any such program, pA gets cleared and the
resulting evolution rules are unchanged by this patch.
Users with nonzero pA are unlikely to unintentionally leak that
capability. If they run programs that try to drop privileges, dropping
privileges will still work.
It's worth noting that the degree of paranoia in this patch could
possibly be reduced without causing serious problems. Specifically, if
we allowed pA to persist across executing non-pA-aware setuid binaries
and across setresuid, then, naively, the only capabilities that could
leak as a result would be the capabilities in pA, and any attacker
*already* has those capabilities. This would make me nervous, though --
setuid binaries that tried to privilege-separate might fail to do so,
and putting CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH or CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE into pA could have
unexpected side effects. (Whether these unexpected side effects would
be exploitable is an open question.) I've therefore taken the more
paranoid route. We can revisit this later.
An alternative would be to require PR_SET_NO_NEW_PRIVS before setting
ambient capabilities. I think that this would be annoying and would
make granting otherwise unprivileged users minor ambient capabilities
(CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE or CAP_NET_RAW for example) much less useful than
it is with this patch.
===== Footnotes =====
[1] Files that are missing the "security.capability" xattr or that have
unrecognized values for that xattr end up with has_cap set to false.
The code that does that appears to be complicated for no good reason.
[2] The libcap capability mask parsers and formatters are dangerously
misleading and the documentation is flat-out wrong. fE is *not* a mask;
it's a single bit. This has probably confused every single person who
has tried to use file capabilities.
[3] Linux very confusingly processes both the script and the interpreter
if applicable, for reasons that elude me. The results from thinking
about a script's file capabilities and/or setuid bits are mostly
discarded.

get_task_ioprio() accesses the task->io_context without holding the task
lock and thus can race with exit_io_context(), leading to a
use-after-free. The reproducer below hits this within a few seconds on

mnt: Fail collect_mounts when applied to unmounted mounts
The only users of collect_mounts are in audit_tree.c
In audit_trim_trees and audit_add_tree_rule the path passed into
collect_mounts is generated from kern_path passed an audit_tree
pathname which is guaranteed to be an absolute path. In those cases
collect_mounts is obviously intended to work on mounted paths and
if a race results in paths that are unmounted when collect_mounts
it is reasonable to fail early.
The paths passed into audit_tag_tree don't have the absolute path
check. But are used to play with fsnotify and otherwise interact with
the audit_trees, so again operating only on mounted paths appears
reasonable.
Avoid having to worry about what happens when we try and audit
unmounted filesystems by restricting collect_mounts to mounts
that appear in the mount tree.

fuse: break infinite loop in fuse_fill_write_pages()
I got a report about unkillable task eating CPU. Further
investigation shows, that the problem is in the fuse_fill_write_pages()
function. If iov's first segment has zero length, we get an infinite
loop, because we never reach iov_iter_advance() call.
Fix this by calling iov_iter_advance() before repeating an attempt to
copy data from userspace.
A similar problem is described in
124d3b7041f ("fix writev regression:
pan hanging unkillable and un-straceable"). If zero-length segmend
is followed by segment with invalid address,
iov_iter_fault_in_readable() checks only first segment (zero-length),
iov_iter_copy_from_user_atomic() skips it, fails at second and
returns zero -> goto again without skipping zero-length segment.
Patch calls iov_iter_advance() before goto again: we'll skip zero-length
segment at second iteraction and iov_iter_fault_in_readable() will detect
invalid address.

ext4: make orphan functions be no-op in no-journal mode
Instead of checking whether the handle is valid, we check if journal
is enabled. This avoids taking the s_orphan_lock mutex in all cases
when there is no journal in use, including the error paths where
ext4_orphan_del() is called with a handle set to NULL.

vfs: read file_handle only once in handle_to_path
We used to read file_handle twice. Once to get the amount of extra bytes, and
once to fetch the entire structure.
This may be problematic since we do size verifications only after the first
read, so if the number of extra bytes changes in userspace between the first
and second calls, we'll have an incoherent view of file_handle.
Instead, read the constant size once, and copy that over to the final
structure without having to re-read it again.

ANDROID: sdcardfs: Set num in extension_details during make_item
Without this patch when you delete an extension from configfs
it still exists in the hash table data structures and we are
unable to delete it or change it's group.
This happens because during deletion the key & value is taken from
extension_details, and was not properly set.
Fix it by this patch.

ANDROID: sdcardfs: Protect set_top
If the top is changed while we're attempting to use it, it's
possible that the reference will be put while we are in the
process of grabbing a reference.
Now we grab a spinlock to protect grabbing our reference count.
Additionally, we now set the inode_info's top value to point to
it's own data when initializing, which makes tracking changes
easier.

ANDROID: xattr: Pass EOPNOTSUPP to permission2
The permission call for xattr operations happens regardless of
whether or not the xattr functions are implemented.
The xattr functions currently don't have support for permission2.
Passing EOPNOTSUPP as the mount point in xattr_permission allows
us to return EOPNOTSUPP early in permission2, if the filesystem
supports it.

ANDROID: sdcardfs: remove dead function open_flags_to_access_mode()
smatch warns about the suspicious formatting in the last line of
open_flags_to_access_mode(). It turns out the only caller was deleted
over a year ago by "ANDROID: sdcardfs: Bring up to date with Android M
permissions:", so we can "fix" the function's formatting by deleting it.
