pch_uart: add multi-scatter processing

Currently, this driver can handle only single scatterlist.
Thus, it can't send data beyond FIFO size.

This patch enables this driver can handle multiple scatter list.

The three identical uart ports can work either in DMA or PIO mode. Adding such
a module parameter "hsu_dma_enable" will enable user to chose working modes for
each port. If the mfd driver is built in kernel, adding a "mfd.hsu_dma_enable=x"
in kernel command line has the same effect.

In A0 stepping, TX half-empty interrupt is not working, so have to
use the full-empty interrupts whose performance will be 15% lower.
Now re-enable the half-empty interrrupt after it is enabled in

This is useful for system management software so that it can kick
off things like gettys and everything that's started from a tty,
before we reuse it from/for something else or shut it down.

Without this ioctl it would have to temporarily become the owner of
the tty, then call vhangup() and then give it up again.

This basically encapsulates the small bit of locking knowledge needed. While
we are at it make sure we blow up on any more abusers and unsafe misuses of
ioctl for this kind of stuff.

We change the function to return an argument as at some point it needs to
honour the POSIX 'I asked for changes but got none of them' error reporting
corner case.

We don't actually need this and it causes problems for internal use of
this functionality. Currently there is a single use of the FILE * pointer.
That is the serial core which uses it to check tty_hung_up_p. However if
that is true then IO_ERROR is also already set so the check may be removed.

Use the regshift member of struct uart_port to store the address stride
from platform data. This way we can save one dereference per call of
altera_uart_readl and altera_uart_writel.

This also allows us to use the driver without platform data, which is
needed for device tree support in the Nios2 port.

In 8250.c original ns16550 autoconfig code, we change the divisor latch when
we goto to high speed mode, we're assuming the previous speed is legacy. This
some times is not true.

For example in a system with both CONFIG_SERIAL_8250 and
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_PNP set, in this case, the code (autoconfig) will be called
twice, one in serial8250_init/probe() and the other is from
serial_pnp_probe. When serial_pnp_probe calls the autoconfig for NS16550A,
it's already in high speed mode, change the divisor latch (quot << 3) in this
case will make the UART console garbled.

For any reason if the NS16550A was not work in high speed mode (e.g. we hold
NS16550A from going to high speed mode in autoconfig_16550a()), now we are
resume from suspend, we should also set the uartclk to the correct
value. Otherwise it is still the old 1843200 and that will bring issues.

This driver is a SPI protocol driver and has no DMA ops
associated with the device so the call will fail. Furthermore,
the DMA allocation made here will be used by the SPI
controller driver (parent dev) so it makes sense to

seems there's no longer need for using con_buf/conf_buf_mtx
as vcs_read/vcs_write buffer for user's data.

The do_con_write function, that was the other user of this,
is currently using its own kmalloc-ed buffer.

Not sure when this got changed, as I was able to find this code
in 2.6.9, but it's already gone as far as current git history
goes - 2.6.12-rc2.

AFAICS there's a behaviour change with the current change.
The lseek is not completely mutually exclusive with the
vcs_read/vcs_write - the file->f_pos might get updated
via lseek callback during the vcs_read/vcs_write processing.

I tried to find out if the prefered behaviour is to keep
this in sync within read/write/lseek functions, but I did
not find any pattern on different places.

I guess if user end up calling write/lseek from different
threads she should know what she's doing. If needed we
could use dedicated fd mutex/buffer.

printk()s without a priority level default to KERN_WARNING. To reduce
noise at KERN_WARNING, this patch set the priority level appriopriately

This converts the existing bfin_jtag_comm TTY driver to the HVC layer so
that the common HVC code can worry about all of the TTY/polling crap and
leave the Blackfin code to worry about the Blackfin bits.

hvc_dcc: Simplify assembly for v6 and v7 ARM

The inline assembly differences for v6 vs. v7 in the hvc_dcc
driver are purely optimizations. On a v7 processor, an mrc with
the pc sets the condition codes to the 28-31 bits of the register
being read. It just so happens that the TX/RX full bits the DCC
driver is testing for are high enough in the register to be put
into the condition codes. On a v6 processor, this "feature" isn't
implemented and thus we have to do the usual read, mask, test
operations to check for TX/RX full.

Since we already test the RX/TX full bits before calling
__dcc_getchar() and __dcc_putchar() we don't actually need to do
anything special for v7 over v6. The only difference is in
hvc_dcc_get_chars(). We would test RX full, poll RX full, and
then read a character from the buffer, whereas now we will test
RX full, read a character from the buffer, and then test RX full
again for the second iteration of the loop. It doesn't seem
possible for the buffer to go from full to empty between testing
the RX full and reading a character. Therefore, replace the v7
versions with the v6 versions and everything works the same.

Casting and anding with 0xff is unnecessary in
hvc_dcc_put_chars() since buf is already a char[].
__dcc_get_char() can't return an int less than 0 since it only
returns a char. Simplify the if statement in hvc_dcc_get_chars()
to take this into account.

On some platforms, we need to restore the console speed on resume even
it was not suspended (no_console_suspend), and on others we don't have
to do that.

So don't care about the "console_suspend_enabled" and unconditionally
reset the console speed if it is a console.

This is actually a redo of ba15ab0 (Set proper console speed on resume
if console suspend is disabled) from Deepak Saxena.  I also tried to
investigate more to find out if this change will break others, here is

from ba15ab0, we learned that, even if the console suspend is disabled
(when no_console_suspend is set), we may still need to "reset the port
to the state it was in before we suspended."

Then with 4547be7, this piece of code is removed.

And then Jason Wang added that back in ca2e71a and 891b9dd, to fix
some breakage on OMAP3EVM platform. From ca2e71a we learned that the
"set_termios" things is actually needed by both console is suspended
and not suspended.

That's why I removed the console_suspended_enabled condition, and only
call console_start() when we actually suspeneded it.

I also noticed in this thread:
http://marc.info/?t=129079257100004&r=1&w=2, which talked about on
some platforms, UART HW will be cut power whether or not we set
no_console_suspend, and then on resume it does not work quite well. I
have a similar HW, and this patch fixed this issue, don't know if this
patch also works on their platforms.

[Update: Stanislav tested this patch on Zaurus and reported it improves the

OMAP can do also dynamic idling so wake-up enable register should be set
also while system is running. If UART_OMAP_WER is not set, then for instance
the RX activity cannot wake up the UART port that is sleeping.

This RX wake-up feature was working when the 8250 driver was used instead
of omap-serial. Reason for this is that the 8250 doesn't set the
UART_OMAP_WER and then arch/arm/mach-omap2/pm34xx.c ends up saving and
restoring the reset default which is the same than value
OMAP_UART_WER_MOD_WKUP here.

Fix this by moving the conditional UART_OMAP_WER write from serial_omap_pm
into serial_omap_startup where wake-up bits are set unconditionally.

Magic SysRq key is not working for OMAP on new serial
console ttyOx because SUPPORT_SYSRQ is not defined
for omap-serial.

This patch defines SUPPORT_SYSRQ in omap-serial and
enables handling of Magic SysRq character.

Further there is an issue of losing first break character.
Removing the reset of the lsr_break_flag fixes this issue.

timer to check dma rx channel", which is a workaround for a bug in A0
stepping silicon, where a dma rx data timeout is missing for some case.
Since new silicon has fixed it and the old version is phasing out, no
need to carry on it any more.

ARM: smp_on_up: allow non-ARM SMP processors

Allow non-ARM SMP processors to use the SMP_ON_UP feature.  CPUs
supporting SMP must have the new CPU ID format, so check for this first.
Then check for ARM11MPCore, which fails the MPIDR check.  Lastly check
the MPIDR reports multiprocessing extensions and that the CPU is part of
a multiprocessing system.

Ensure that the ISA/PCI IO space accessors are properly ordered on
ARMv6+ architectures.  These should always be ordered with respect to
all other accesses.

This also fixes __iormb() and __iowmb() not being visible to ioread/
iowrite if a platform defines its own MMIO accessors.

Disable the initrd if the passed address already overlaps the reserved
region.  This avoids oopses on Netwinders when NeTTrom tells the kernel
that an initrd is located at mem+4MB, but this overlaps the BSS,
resulting in the kernels in-use BSS being freed.

This should be applied to v2.6.37-stable.

Since check_prlimit_permission always fails in the case of SUID/GUID
processes, such processes are not able to read or set their own limits.

NTFS: Fix invalid pointer dereference in ntfs_mft_record_alloc().

In ntfs_mft_record_alloc() when mapping the new extent mft record with
map_extent_mft_record() we overwrite @m with the return value and on
error, we then try to use the old @m but that is no longer there as @m
now contains an error code instead so we crash when dereferencing the
error code as if it were a pointer.

The simple fix is to use a temporary variable to store the return value
thus preserving the original @m for later use.  This is a backport from
the commercial Tuxera-NTFS driver and is well tested...

Thanks go to Julia Lawall for pointing this out (whilst I had fixed it
in the commercial driver I had failed to fix it in the Linux kernel).

Unfortunately, this commit breaks UBIFS backward compatibility and
makes new UBIFS refuse older UBIFS-formatted media:

UBIFS error: validate_sb: min. I/O unit mismatch: 8 in superblock, 64 real

Thus, we have to revert this patch and work on a better solution.

On recent 2.6.38-rc kernels, connectathon basic test 6 fails on
NFSv4 mounts of OpenSolaris with something like:

I narrowed the problem down to nfs4_decode_dirent() reporting that the
decode buffer had overflowed while decoding the entries for those
missing files.

verify_attr_len() assumes both it's pointer arguments reside on the
same page.  When these arguments point to locations on two different
pages, verify_attr_len() can report false errors.  This can happen now
that a large NFSv4 readdir result can span pages.

We have reasonably good checking in nfs4_decode_dirent() anyway, so
it should be safe to simply remove the extra checking.

At a guess, this was introduced by commit 6650239a, "NFS: Don't use
vm_map_ram() in readdir".

Make the decoding of NFSv4 directory entries slightly more efficient
by:

  1.  Avoiding unnecessary byte swapping when checking XDR booleans,
      and

  2.  Not bumping "p" when its value will be immediately replaced by
      xdr_inline_decode()

This commit makes nfs4_decode_dirent() consistent with similar logic
in the other two decode_dirent() functions.

When filling in the middle of a previous delayed allocation in
xfs_bmap_add_extent_delay_real, set br_startblock of the new delay
extent to the right to nullstartblock instead of 0 before inserting
the extent into the ifork (xfs_iext_insert), rather than setting
br_startblock afterward.

Adding the extent into the ifork with br_startblock=0 can lead to
the extent being copied into the btree by xfs_bmap_extent_to_btree
if we happen to convert from extents format to btree format before
updating br_startblock with the correct value.  The unexpected
addition of this delay extent to the btree can cause subsequent
XFS_WANT_CORRUPTED_GOTO filesystem shutdown in several
xfs_bmap_add_extent_delay_real cases where we are converting a delay
extent to real and unexpectedly find an extent already inserted.

With the bogus extent in the btree we shutdown the filesystem at
931.  The conversion from extents to btree format happens when the
number of extents in the inode increases above ip->i_df.if_ext_max.
xfs_bmap_extent_to_btree copies extents from the ifork into the
btree, ignoring all delalloc extents which are denoted by
br_startblock having some value of nullstartblock.

Commit 368e136 ("xfs: remove duplicate code from dquot reclaim") fails
to unlock the dquot freelist when the number of loop restarts is
exceeded in xfs_qm_dqreclaim_one(). This causes hangs in memory
reclaim.

Rework the loop control logic into an unwind stack that all the
different cases jump into. This means there is only one set of code
that processes the loop exit criteria, and simplifies the unlocking
of all the items from different points in the loop. It also fixes a
double increment of the restart counter from the qi_dqlist_lock
case.

Failure to commit a transaction into the CIL is not handled
correctly. This currently can only happen when racing with a
shutdown and requires an explicit shutdown check, so it rare and can
be avoided. Remove the shutdown check and make the CIL commit a void
function to indicate it will always succeed, thereby removing the
incorrectly handled failure case.

The extent size hint can be set to larger than an AG. This means
that the alignment process can push the range to be allocated
outside the bounds of the AG, resulting in assert failures or
corrupted bmbt records. Similarly, if the extsize is larger than the
maximum extent size supported, the alignment process will produce
extents that are too large to fit into the bmbt records, resulting
in a different type of assert/corruption failure.

Fix this by limiting extsize at the time іt is set firstly to be
less than MAXEXTLEN, then to be a maximum of half the size of the
AGs in the filesystem for non-realtime inodes. Realtime inodes do
not allocate out of AGs, so don't have to be restricted by the size
of AGs.

When doing delayed allocation, if the allocation size is for a
maximally sized extent, extent size alignment can push it over this
limit. This results in an assert failure in xfs_bmbt_set_allf() as
the extent length is too large to find in the extent record.

Fix this by ensuring that we allow for space that extent size
alignment requires (up to 2 * (extsize -1) blocks as we have to
handle both head and tail alignment) when limiting the maximum size
of the extent.

Delayed allocation extents can be larger than AGs, so when trying to
convert a large range we may scan every AG inside
xfs_bmap_alloc_nullfb() trying to find an AG with a size larger than
an AG. We should stop when we find the first AG with a maximum
possible allocation size. This causes excessive CPU usage when there
are lots of AGs.

The same problem occurs when doing preallocation of a range larger
than an AG.

Fix the problem by limiting real allocation lengths to the maximum
that an AG can support. This means if we have empty AGs, we'll stop
the search at the first of them. If there are no empty AGs, we'll
still scan them all, but that is a different problem....

value of zero. The specualtive delayed allocation code is doing this
when the inode is zero length. Hence occasionally the preallocation
is much, much larger than is necessary (e.g. 8GB for a 270 _byte_
file). Ensure we don't even pass a zero value to this function so
the result of preallocation is always the desired size.

The cause of the leak is that the "remove" parameter of IOP_UNPIN()
is never set when a CIL push is aborted. This means that the EFI
item is never freed if it was in the push being cancelled. The
problem is specific to delayed logging, but has uncovered a couple
of problems with the handling of IOP_UNPIN(remove).

Firstly, we cannot safely call xfs_trans_del_item() from IOP_UNPIN()
in the CIL commit failure path or the iclog write failure path
because for delayed loging we have no transaction context. Hence we
must only call xfs_trans_del_item() if the log item being unpinned
has an active log item descriptor.

Secondly, xfs_trans_uncommit() does not handle log item descriptor
freeing during the traversal of log items on a transaction. It can
reference a freed log item descriptor when unpinning an EFI item.
Hence it needs to use a safe list traversal method to allow items to
be removed from the transaction during IOP_UNPIN().

libata: set queue DMA alignment to sector size for ATAPI too

ata_pio_sectors() expects buffer for each sector to be contained in a
single page; otherwise, it ends up overrunning the first page.  This
is achieved by setting queue DMA alignment.  If sector_size is smaller
than PAGE_SIZE and all buffers are sector_size aligned, buffer for
each sector is always contained in a single page.

This wasn't applied to ATAPI devices but IDENTIFY_PACKET is executed
as ATA_PROT_PIO and thus uses ata_pio_sectors().  Newer versions of
udev issue IDENTIFY_PACKET with unaligned buffer triggering the
problem and causing oops.

This patch fixes the problem by setting sdev->sector_size to
ATA_SECT_SIZE on ATATPI devices and always setting DMA alignment to
sector_size.  While at it, add a warning for the unlikely but still
possible scenario where sector_size is larger than PAGE_SIZE, in which
case the alignment wouldn't be enough.
