Documentation/memory-barriers.txt: Add needed ACCESS_ONCE() calls to memory-barriers.txt
The Documentation/memory-barriers.txt file was written before
the need for ACCESS_ONCE() was fully appreciated. It therefore
contains no ACCESS_ONCE() calls, which can be a problem when
people lift examples from it. This commit therefore adds
ACCESS_ONCE() calls.

Revert "smp/cpumask: Make CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK=y usable without debug dependency"
This reverts commit
9dd1220114e00d8ec5cdc20085bbe198b21e1985.
Revert it until Linus's concerns are addressed: this option should not
allow nonsensical CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK and CONFIG_NR_CPUS values, and
it should probably select sane defaults as well.

Documentation/robust-futex-API: Count properly to 4
A strictly monotonically increasing sequence is normally used in
numbered lists as they provide an intuitive ordering of the
elements.
However, in situations where race conditions can appear, this
assumption breaks down and you can end up with unpredictable
results, leading to a rather confusing list :-)
This changes the numbered list 1,2,2,2 to the more intuitive
1,2,3,4.

liblockdep: Add the 'lockdep' user-space utility
This is a simple wrapper to make using liblockdep on existing
applications much easier.
After running 'make && make install', it becomes quite simple to
test things with liblockdep. For example, to try it on perf:
lockdep perf
No other integration required.

liblockdep: Support using LD_PRELOAD
This allows lockdep to be used without being compiled in the
original program.
Usage is quite simple:
LD_PRELOAD=/path/to/liblockdep.so /path/to/my/program
And magically, you'll have lockdep checking in your program!

liblockdep: Add public headers for pthread_mutex_t implementation
These headers provide the same API as their pthread mutex
counterparts.
The design here is to allow to easily switch to liblockdep lock
validation just by adding a "liblockdep_" to pthread_mutex_*()
calls, which means that it's easy to integrate liblockdep into
existing codebases.

liblockdep: Wrap kernel/locking/lockdep.c to allow usage from userspace
kernel/locking/lockdep.c deals with validating locking scenarios for
various architectures supported by the kernel. There isn't
anything kernel specific going on in lockdep, and when we
compare userspace to other architectures that don't have to deal
with irqs such as s390, they become all too similar.
We wrap kernel/locking/lockdep.c and include/linux/lockdep.h with
several headers which allow us to build and use lockdep from
userspace. We don't touch the kernel code itself which means
that any work done on lockdep in the kernel will automatically
benefit userspace lockdep as well!

lockdep: Be nice about building from userspace
Lockdep is an awesome piece of code which detects locking issues
which are relevant both to userspace and kernelspace. We can
easily make lockdep work in userspace since there is really no
kernel spacific magic going on in the code.
All we need is to wrap two functions which are used by lockdep
and are very kernel specific.
Doing that will allow tools located in tools/ to easily utilize
lockdep's code for their own use.

lockdep: Simplify a bit hardirq <-> softirq transitions
Instead of saving the hardirq state on a per CPU variable, which require
an explicit call before the softirq handling and some complication,
just save and restore the hardirq tracing state through functions
return values and parameters.
It simplifies a bit the black magic that works around the fact that
softirqs can be called from hardirqs while hardirqs can nest on softirqs
but those two cases have very different semantics and only the latter
case assume both states.

aacraid: prevent invalid pointer dereference
It appears that driver runs into a problem here if fibsize is too small
because we allocate user_srbcmd with fibsize size only but later we
access it until user_srbcmd->sg.count to copy it over to srbcmd.
It is not correct to test (fibsize < sizeof(*user_srbcmd)) because this
structure already includes one sg element and this is not needed for
commands without data. So, we would recommend to add the following
(instead of test for fibsize == 0).

1) Johannes Berg noticed two major deficiencies in our genetlink
registration. Some genetlink protocols we passing in constant
counts for their ops array rather than something like
ARRAY_SIZE(ops) or similar. Also, some genetlink protocols were
using fixed IDs for their multicast groups.
We have to retain these fixed IDs to keep existing userland tools
working, but reserve them so that other multicast groups used by
other protocols can not possibly conflict.
In dealing with these two problems, we actually now use less state
management for genetlink operations and multicast groups.
2) When configuring interface hardware timestamping, fix several
drivers that simply do not validate that the hwtstamp_config value
is one the driver actually supports. From Ben Hutchings.
3) Invalid memory references in mwifiex driver, from Amitkumar Karwar.
4) In dev_forward_skb(), set the skb->protocol in the right order
relative to skb_scrub_packet(). From Alexei Starovoitov.
5) Bridge erroneously fails to use the proper wrapper functions to make
calls to netdev_ops->ndo_vlan_rx_{add,kill}_vid. Fix from Toshiaki
Makita.
6) When detaching a bridge port, make sure to flush all VLAN IDs to
prevent them from leaking, also from Toshiaki Makita.
7) Put in a compromise for TCP Small Queues so that deep queued devices
that delay TX reclaim non-trivially don't have such a performance
decrease. One particularly problematic area is 802.11 AMPDU in
wireless. From Eric Dumazet.
8) Fix crashes in tcp_fastopen_cache_get(), we can see NULL socket dsts
here. Fix from Eric Dumzaet, reported by Dave Jones.
9) Fix use after free in ipv6 SIT driver, from Willem de Bruijn.
10) When computing mergeable buffer sizes, virtio-net fails to take the
virtio-net header into account. From Michael Dalton.
11) Fix seqlock deadlock in ip4_datagram_connect() wrt. statistic
bumping, this one has been with us for a while. From Eric Dumazet.
12) Fix NULL deref in the new TIPC fragmentation handling, from Erik
Hugne.
13) 6lowpan bit used for traffic classification was wrong, from Jukka
Rissanen.
14) macvlan has the same issue as normal vlans did wrt. propagating LRO
disabling down to the real device, fix it the same way. From Michal
Kubecek.
15) CPSW driver needs to soft reset all slaves during suspend, from
Daniel Mack.
16) Fix small frame pacing in FQ packet scheduler, from Eric Dumazet.
17) The xen-netfront RX buffer refill timer isn't properly scheduled on
partial RX allocation success, from Ma JieYue.
18) When ipv6 ping protocol support was added, the AF_INET6 protocol
initialization cleanup path on failure was borked a little. Fix
from Vlad Yasevich.
19) If a socket disconnects during a read/recvmsg/recvfrom/etc that
blocks we can do the wrong thing with the msg_name we write back to
userspace. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. There is another fix in the
works from Hannes which will prevent future problems of this nature.
20) Fix route leak in VTI tunnel transmit, from Fan Du.

genetlink: make multicast groups const, prevent abuse
Register generic netlink multicast groups as an array with
the family and give them contiguous group IDs. Then instead
of passing the global group ID to the various functions that
send messages, pass the ID relative to the family - for most
families that's just 0 because the only have one group.
This avoids the list_head and ID in each group, adding a new
field for the mcast group ID offset to the family.
At the same time, this allows us to prevent abusing groups
again like the quota and dropmon code did, since we can now
check that a family only uses a group it owns.

quota/genetlink: use proper genetlink multicast APIs
The quota code is abusing the genetlink API and is using
its family ID as the multicast group ID, which is invalid
and may belong to somebody else (and likely will.)
Make the quota code use the correct API, but since this
is already used as-is by userspace, reserve a family ID
for this code and also reserve that group ID to not break
userspace assumptions.

drop_monitor/genetlink: use proper genetlink multicast APIs
The drop monitor code is abusing the genetlink API and is
statically using the generic netlink multicast group 1, even
if that group belongs to somebody else (which it invariably
will, since it's not reserved.)
Make the drop monitor code use the proper APIs to reserve a
group ID, but also reserve the group id 1 in generic netlink
code to preserve the userspace API. Since drop monitor can
be a module, don't clear the bit for it on unregistration.

genetlink: only pass array to genl_register_family_with_ops()
As suggested by David Miller, make genl_register_family_with_ops()
a macro and pass only the array, evaluating ARRAY_SIZE() in the
macro, this is a little safer.
The openvswitch has some indirection, assing ops/n_ops directly in
that code. This might ultimately just assign the pointers in the
family initializations, saving the struct genl_family_and_ops and
code (once mcast groups are handled differently.)

Before this panic a tcp socket was restored. This socket had sent and
unsent data in the write queue. Sent data was restored in repair mode,
then the socket was switched from reapair mode and unsent data was
restored. After that the socket was switched back into repair mode.
In that moment we had a socket where write queue looks like this:

After a second switching from repair mode the state of socket was
changed:

This state is inconsistent, because snd_nxt and sk_send_head are not
synchronized.
Bellow you can find a call trace, how packets_out can be incremented
twice for one skb, if snd_nxt and sk_send_head are not synchronized.
In this case packets_out will be always positive, even when
sk_write_queue is empty.

I think update of snd_nxt isn't required, when a socket is switched from
repair mode. Because it's initialized in tcp_connect_init. Then when a
write queue is restored, snd_nxt is incremented in tcp_event_new_data_sent,
so it's always is in consistent state.
I have checked, that the bug is not reproduced with this patch and
all tests about restoring tcp connections work fine.

xfrm: Release dst if this dst is improper for vti tunnel
After searching rt by the vti tunnel dst/src parameter,
if this rt has neither attached to any transformation
nor the transformation is not tunnel oriented, this rt
should be released back to ip layer.
otherwise causing dst memory leakage.

lockdep: Correctly annotate hardirq context in irq_exit()
There was a reported deadlock on -rt which lockdep didn't report.
It turns out that in irq_exit() we tell lockdep that the hardirq
context ends and then do all kinds of locking afterwards.
To fix it, move trace_hardirq_exit() to the very end of irq_exit(), this
ensures all locking in tick_irq_exit() and rcu_irq_exit() are properly
recorded as happening from hardirq context.
This however leads to the 'fun' little problem of running softirqs
while in hardirq context. To cure this make the softirq code a little
more complex (in the CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS case).
Due to stack swizzling arch dependent trickery we cannot pass an
argument to __do_softirq() to tell it if it was done from hardirq
context or not; so use a side-band argument.
When we do __do_softirq() from hardirq context, 'atomically' flip to
softirq context and back, so that no locking goes without being in
either hard- or soft-irq context.
I didn't find any new problems in mainline using this patch, but it
did show the -rt problem.

be2net: Delete secondary unicast MAC addresses during be_close
Secondary unicast MAC addresses will get deleted only when the interface is UP.
When the interface is DOWN, though these secondary MAC addresses are unusable
and awaiting to be deleted, cause the firmware to believe that they are being used.
If the user intends to set a MAC address as primary MAC from one of these
secondary MAC addresses, the firmware returns a MAC address Collision error.
Delete these secondary MAC addresses during be_close.
The secondary MAC addresses list will be refreshed during interface open anyway.

be2net: Fix unconditional enabling of Rx interface options
The driver currently requests the firmware to enable rx_interface options
without considering if the interface was created with that capability.
This could cause commands to firmware to fail.
To avoid this, enable only those options on an interface if the interface
was created with that capability.

Current driver release rtnl lock in between DCB re-configuration.
As a result, other flows (e.g., mtu config) may enter in between and fail

bnx2x: prevent CFC attention
During VF load, prior to sending messages on HW channel to PF the VF
checks its bulletin board to see whether the PF indicated it has closed;
If a closed PF is encountered, the VF skips sending the message.
Due to incorrect return values, there's a possible scenario in which the VF
finishes loading "successfully", while the PF hasn't actually fully configured
FW/HW for the VFs supposed configuration.
Once VF tries to send Tx packets, HW will raise an attention (and FW possibly
will start treat the VF as malicious).
The patch fails the loading process in such a scenario.

bnx2x: Prevent panic during DMAE timeout
If chip enters a recovery flow just after the driver issues a DMAE request
the DMAE will timeout. Current code will cause a bnx2x_panic() as a result,
which means interface will no longer be usable (regardless of the recovery
results), as bnx2x_panic() is irreversible for the driver.
As this is a possible flow, the panic should be reached only when driver
is compiled with STOP_ON_ERROR.

watchdog: w83627hf: Enable watchdog device only if not already enabled
There is no need to enable the watchdog device if it is already enabled.
Also, when enabling the watchdog device, only set the watchdog device
enable bit and do not touch other bits; depending on the chip type,
those bits may enable other functionality.

inet: prevent leakage of uninitialized memory to user in recv syscalls
Only update *addr_len when we actually fill in sockaddr, otherwise we
can return uninitialized memory from the stack to the caller in the
recvfrom, recvmmsg and recvmsg syscalls. Drop the the (addr_len == NULL)
checks because we only get called with a valid addr_len pointer either
from sock_common_recvmsg or inet_recvmsg.
If a blocking read waits on a socket which is concurrently shut down we
now return zero and set msg_msgnamelen to 0.

xen-netfront: fix missing rx_refill_timer when allocate memory failed
There was a bug in xennet_alloc_rx_buffers, when allocating page or
sk_buff failed, and at the same time rx_batch queue not empty,
the rx_refill_timer timer won't be scheduled. If finally the remaining
request buffers in rx ring less than what backend driver expected,
the backend driver would think of rx ring as full and start dropping packets.
In such situation, there is no way for the netfront driver to recover
automatically, so that the device can not work properly.
The patch fixes the problem by always scheduling rx_refill_timer timer when
alloc_page or __netdev_alloc_skb fails, no matter whether rx_batch queue is
empty or not. It ensures that the rx ring request buffers will finally meet
the backend needs.

Revert "init/Kconfig: add option to disable kernel compression"
This reverts commit
69f0554ec261fd686ac7fa1c598cc9eb27b83a80.
This patch breaks randconfig on at least the x86-64 architecture, and
most likely on others. There is work underway to support uncompressed
kernels in a generic way, but it looks like it will amount to
rewriting the support from scratch; see the LKML thread in the Link:
for info.
Therefore, revert this change and wait for the fix.

watchdog: omap_wdt: raw read and write endian fix
All OMAP IP blocks expect LE data, but CPU may operate in BE mode.
Need to use endian neutral functions to read/write h/w registers.
I.e instead of __raw_read[lw] and __raw_write[lw] functions code
need to use read[lw]_relaxed and write[lw]_relaxed functions.
If the first simply reads/writes register, the second will byteswap
it if host operates in BE mode.
Changes are trivial sed like replacement of __raw_xxx functions
with xxx_relaxed variant.

watchdog: sirf: don't depend on dummy value of CLOCK_TICK_RATE
As CSR SiRF is converted to multi platform CLOCK_TICK_RATE is a dummy
value that seems to match the right value is used.
(arch/arm/mach-prima2/include/mach/timex.h which defined CLOCK_TICK_RATE
to
1000000 was removed in commit
cf82e0e (ARM: sirf: enable
multiplatform support); marco used the same file.)
To not depend on that dummy value use a local #define instead.

watchdog: Get rid of MODULE_ALIAS_MISCDEV statements
I just can't find any value in MODULE_ALIAS_MISCDEV(WATCHDOG_MINOR)
and MODULE_ALIAS_MISCDEV(TEMP_MINOR) statements.
Either the device is enumerated and the driver already has a module
alias (e.g. PCI, USB etc.) that will get the right driver loaded
automatically.
Or the device is not enumerated and loading its driver will lead to
more or less intrusive hardware poking. Such hardware poking should be
limited to a bare minimum, so the user should really decide which
drivers should be tried and in what order. Trying them all in
arbitrary order can't do any good.
On top of that, loading that many drivers at once bloats the kernel
log. Also many drivers will stay loaded afterward, bloating the output
of "lsmod" and wasting memory. Some modules (cs5535_mfgpt which gets
loaded as a dependency) can't even be unloaded!
If defining char-major-10-130 is needed then it should happen in
user-space.

watchdog: sirf: add watchdog driver of CSR SiRFprimaII and SiRFatlasVI
On CSR SiRFprimaII and SiRFatlasVI, the 6th timer can act as a watchdog
timer when the Watchdog mode is enabled.
watchdog occur when TIMER watchdog counter matches the value software
pre-set, when this event occurs, the effect is the same as the system
software reset.

watchdog: Remove redundant of_match_ptr
of_match_ptr() is a macro used to avoid undefined reference error if
CONFIG_OF is used to selectively compile in or out the
data structure. It is defined as follows:
#ifdef CONFIG_OF
#define of_match_ptr(ptr) ptr
#else
#define of_match_ptr(ptr) NULL
#endif
In the case of this series, none of the drivers use CONFIG_OF macro to
compile out the data structure (i.e., the data structure is always
defined).
Hence the use of of_match_ptr() does not make any sense. Thus removing
it to make the code look simpler for readability.

watchdog: ts72xx_wdt: cleanup return codes in ioctl
There seems to be some confusion here which functions return positive
numbers and which return negative error codes.
copy_to_user() returns the number of bytes remaining to be copied but we
want to return -EFAULT.
The rest is just clean up. get_user() actually returns zero on success
and -EFAULT on error so we can preserve the error code. The
timeout_to_regval() function returns -EINVAL on failure, but we can
propogate that back instead of hardcoding -EINVAL ourselves.

watchdog: Add MOXA ART watchdog driver
This patch adds a watchdog driver for the main hardware watchdog timer
found on MOXA ART SoCs.
The MOXA ART SoC provides one writable timer register, restarting
the hardware once it reaches zero. The register is auto decremented
every APB clock cycle.

watchdog: dw_wdt: convert to SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS
The dw_wdt only provides PM_SLEEP operations, so convert the driver
to use SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS instead of populating the struct manually.
This has the added effect of simplifying the CONFIG_PM ifdefs.

i2c: i2c-eg20t: do not print error message in syslog if no ACK received
Using the i2c-eg20t driver and call i2cdetect or probe on the bus,
the driver will print a lot of error messages if there was no ACK
received.
i2cdetect normally print a table with all the available devices. If there
is no device on the address, the table will be empty.
Currently with the i2c-eg20t driver, the table is not visible because
the error messages destroy the table.
Error message: pch_i2c_getack return -71
This patch prevent the driver to print the messages to syslog.
The pch_i2c_wait_for_check_xfer function is the only one who is
calling pch_i2c_getack, so we can delete the function and add the
read to pch_i2c_wait_for_check_xfer.
If no ACK is received, the Message will be printed as a dbg
message.
Fixed print message to be a one liner so we can grep for the
error message.
Tested on Intel Atom E6xx and Eg20t Chipset.

IB/core: extended command: an improved infrastructure for uverbs commands
Commit
400dbc96583f ("IB/core: Infrastructure for extensible uverbs
commands") added an infrastructure for extensible uverbs commands
while later commit
436f2ad05a0b ("IB/core: Export ib_create/destroy_flow
through uverbs") exported ib_create_flow()/ib_destroy_flow() functions
using this new infrastructure.
According to the commit
400dbc96583f, the purpose of this
infrastructure is to support passing around provider (eg. hardware)
specific buffers when userspace issue commands to the kernel, so that
it would be possible to extend uverbs (eg. core) buffers independently
from the provider buffers.
But the new kernel command function prototypes were not modified to
take advantage of this extension. This issue was exposed by Roland
Dreier in a previous review[1].
So the following patch is an attempt to a revised extensible command
infrastructure.
This improved extensible command infrastructure distinguish between
core (eg. legacy)'s command/response buffers from provider
(eg. hardware)'s command/response buffers: each extended command
implementing function is given a struct ib_udata to hold core
(eg. uverbs) input and output buffers, and another struct ib_udata to
hold the hw (eg. provider) input and output buffers.
Having those buffers identified separately make it easier to increase
one buffer to support extension without having to add some code to
guess the exact size of each command/response parts: This should make
the extended functions more reliable.
Additionally, instead of relying on command identifier being greater
than IB_USER_VERBS_CMD_THRESHOLD, the proposed infrastructure rely on
unused bits in command field: on the 32 bits provided by command
field, only 6 bits are really needed to encode the identifier of
commands currently supported by the kernel. (Even using only 6 bits
leaves room for about 23 new commands).
So this patch makes use of some high order bits in command field to
store flags, leaving enough room for more command identifiers than one
will ever need (eg. 256).
The new flags are used to specify if the command should be processed
as an extended one or a legacy one. While designing the new command
format, care was taken to make usage of flags itself extensible.
Using high order bits of the commands field ensure that newer
libibverbs on older kernel will properly fail when trying to call
extended commands. On the other hand, older libibverbs on newer kernel
will never be able to issue calls to extended commands.
The extended command header includes the optional response pointer so
that output buffer length and output buffer pointer are located
together in the command, allowing proper parameters checking. This
should make implementing functions easier and safer.
Additionally the extended header ensure 64bits alignment, while making
all sizes multiple of 8 bytes, extending the maximum buffer size:
legacy extended
Maximum command buffer: 256KBytes 1024KBytes (512KBytes + 512KBytes)
Maximum response buffer: 256KBytes 1024KBytes (512KBytes + 512KBytes)
For the purpose of doing proper buffer size accounting, the headers
size are no more taken in account in "in_words".
One of the odds of the current extensible infrastructure, reading
twice the "legacy" command header, is fixed by removing the "legacy"
command header from the extended command header: they are processed as
two different parts of the command: memory is read once and
information are not duplicated: it's making clear that's an extended
command scheme and not a different command scheme.
The proposed scheme will format input (command) and output (response)
buffers this way:

The overall design is to ensure that the extensible infrastructure is
itself extensible while begin more reliable with more input and bound
checking.
Note:
The unused field in the extended header would be perfect candidate to
hold the command "comp_mask" (eg. bit field used to handle
compatibility). This was suggested by Roland Dreier in a previous
review[2]. But "comp_mask" field is likely to be present in the uverb
input and/or provider input, likewise for the response, as noted by
Matan Barak[3], so it doesn't make sense to put "comp_mask" in the
header.
